Bettendorf Community School District - Edison Academy
3066 Victoria St.
Bettendorf, IA 52722
Bettendorf Community School District – Edison Academy (Alternative High School) will host a ribbon cutting to celebrate this new building on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 PM. It is located at 3066 Victoria St in Bettendorf, IA.
The Edison Academy has been housed at the Thomas Edison Education Center (the former Bettendorf post office) since 1998. While learning standards have evolved over the years, the facility has declined. The limited space and lack of walled classrooms have been inadequate and restrictive for today’s curriculum standards.
The renovation of their new school and classroom wing addition will provide students and staff with a greatly improved learning environment with an abundance of natural light. The new school also has better parking, ample flex space for group work and socialization, modern restrooms, shower access, and a school laundry area. The campus is across the street from Bettendorf High School, offering access to resources and courses. The facility will also provide a meeting space for use after school hours.
Edison Academy, a collaborative effort between the Bettendorf Community School District, Pleasant Valley, and North Scott School Districts, is more than just a school. It’s a community that works together to provide a learning alternative. The goal of Edison Academy is to assist students in earning a high school diploma. Sophomore – Senior students earn their home high school diploma upon completing the program. Edison staff work with students to increase their employability and enhance life skills in a positive climate that promotes success in the present and beyond high school.
