Description

The Arc of the Quad Cities Area is hosting a Parent Learning Series focused on providing the tools parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities need to be the most effective. Attendees will learn how to create and protect the life you wish for your child, sibling or loved one.

Workshop Description:

Job Corps is a residential training program federally funded by the Department of Labor. Applicants age 16-24 can obtain their high school diploma or GED, driver’s license and learn a skilled trade. It is technically a two year program but students are able to work at their own pace (with the exception to the CNA trade) as opposed to traditional college programs. They assist with social skills development and offer many activities to keep applicants engaged both on and off campus. When students leave the program they have the opportunity to move forward with advanced training if they want. Job Corps also assists with job placement and retention.

They are also an income based program. If an applicant receives food assistance in the home or free/reduced lunch (not pandemic) they would meet qualifications. If they do not get these we would need to use household income, documented disability etc.

The Arc’s Community Employment Services program (CES)- creates a link between ready workers and employers looking to fill vacancies. CES places individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in jobs throughout the Quad Cities Area. Job developers assess the needs of the employers as well as the skills and abilities of the individuals seeking employment. Through job matching and job coaching, CES provides local businesses with quality employees while reducing employers’ turnover and absenteeism.
